Canio Muscillo Wins Multicultural Business Person Of The Year

MCanio Muscillo from MURO Accounting and business advisors, won the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Multicultural Business Person of the Year for 2020.

On Friday evening, Canio Muscillo from MURO Accounting and business advisors, won the Brisbane Lord Mayor's “Multicultural Business Person of the Year” for 2020.

The awards celebrate the contribution that multicultural businesses and individuals make to the Brisbane economy and community through their creativity, innovation and resilience. Founded in 2008, all funds raised from the award ceremony and dinner go towards the Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Business Scholarship Program and Mentoring Scheme, which has supported over 500 recipients since its inception.

As one of MURO Accounting’s Directors, Canio Muscillo is a renowned Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) and Business Advisor of Italian heritage. Along with his business partner Michele Romano, Canio founded MURO in 2007 and in 2017 won the Queensland Accounting Firm of the Year. With over 23 years’ experience in the accounting industry, he is highly involved in the business and finance community and is regularly invited to present at key industry events. The firm’s philosophy is that every business owner is an entrepreneur. By taking on risk, innovation is inspired, and new challenges are set - creating opportunities that lead to improvement and growth.

Canio takes great pride in watching his clients thrive, and in turn was thrilled to see one of MURO’s own take out the title for “Multicultural Entrepreneur of the Year”, Mr Peter Marinos of Big Michael's Fruit and Vegetables.

At just 29 years old, Peter has already been a client of MURO Accounting for a number of years, and Canio was honoured to support and stand alongside him as they both received two of the evening’s most prestigious honours.

Canio is the first of all his family to be born in Australia and is passionate about his ethnic roots. As his family took on the gamble of leaving Italy to start a new life in Australia, the stories of the struggles and graft has helped shape Canio into what he is today.

With a passion for finance and business, coupled with his compassion and drive, he has been helping new Australians get a solid understanding in conducting business in Australia and increasing their financial acumen.

In his acceptance speech Canio commented. “ This award is so close to my heart, each time I help new Australians with their finances, I feel that I am paying back our forefathers who have risked everything in coming to this country and helping make it the best place in the world.”
